Anglicans for Life

Pregnant woman meditating

Anglicans For Life’s mission is to celebrate, honor, and protect life from conception to natural death because we believe that it is a sacred gift given to us by God. Our local chapter does this through education and supporting our local pregnancy center.

Bag Lunch

Lunch Bags

One of our most popular ministries is the making of hundreds of bag lunches every 2nd and 4th Saturday in the Parish Life Kitchen. These are prayed over and sent to Emmanuel Methodist for distribution.

Jail Ministry

Church Steeple with Cross

This ecumenical mission is composed of men and women who share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with those who are incarcerated. They meet every Wednesday 6:30-8:00 PM at the Sumter Lee County Jail.

Kairos

Bible

An ecumenical prison ministry that shares the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ to impact the hearts and lives of incarcerated men and women to become loving and productive members of their communities. Volunteers are needed for baking cookies, cooking meals, transportation, housing prayer and monetary offerings of support.

Baby Basics

Baby

We help provide baby necessities to new parents. You can help by gifting necessities or by helping with the celebration after church where we present these to the new parents.

Loaves and Fishes

We offer a midday meal on the day of any funeral held at this church and led by Holy Comforter priests. We work in teams and are so pleased to be able to offer an outpouring of love and comfort to those in need.

Feed My Lambs

Feed My Lambs is a ministry here at Holy Comforter designed to supplement food for the children of low-income families. Each week we provide a variety of non-perishable food items for these children and deliver them to their schools where the staff sees to it that the food is distributed.

Cycles for Christmas (Christmas Season)

Holy Comforter Kid Bicycles.jpg

Donated bicycles are collected from the community and refurbished and then given to underprivileged children at Christmas time. This is currently sponsored by the Evening Optimist Club, but you are invited to participate with our church family in this ministry.

Shoe Fund

Holy Comforter Shoe Fund.jpg

Sumter children cannot attend school without shoes. Some children are attending school in shoes that are too large, too small, or composed of duct tape and cardboard. Our area school nurses call Holy Comforter to notify us; this ministry then arranges for the child/children to visit a local store and be fitted for a pair of quality shoes.

Cooking for the King

IMG_7064.jpg

Cooking for the King is a new ministry in which we come together to feed the hungry in our Sumter community. On the second Sunday of the month, we prepare a meal for them and get the opportunity to connect with them. Rather than remaining on the serving side of the table, we cross the dividing table to sit, eat, and talk with the people we serve.

Altar Guild

Altar Guild members prepare the Church for all services, caring for linen, polishing silver and brass, and ordering supplies. Members serve behind the scenes one week per month and help with preparations for special services at Christmas, Lent, Easter, funerals, and weddings.

Flower Guild

If you love flowers, we would love to have your help. Arrangements on the altar for Sunday morning services and other special services come from our own gardens and our own hands.

Ushers

Holy Comforter Usher.jpg

The usher ministry is one of hospitality and welcoming for all who come to worship at any service. They serve on teams of four and on a rotation.

Lay Eucharistic Ministry (LEMs)

The LEMs consist of Lay Readers, Prayer Leaders, and Chalice Bearers. They assist the clergy at all of the services to proclaim God’s word, leading the congregation in prayers, and administering the chalice. This ministry requires clergy endorsement.

Tech Team

Mac Desktop

Volunteers operate the sound system during worship services and Parish Hall events, streaming services, and other teachings for access by parishioners and the public who are unable to attend.

Lay Eucharistic Visitors (LEVs)

Supportive Doctor

LEVs are trained and equipped to bring Holy Communion to those who are unable to attend church services. This ministry requires clergy endorsement.

Security Team

If you live near the church, you may be interested in serving as a responder on those rare occasions when the campus alarm is tripped. You would bring your keys and meet the police or fire dept., and check the property. This team is also available to offer security at Church-sponsored outreach events such as Trunk n’ Treat.

Take Them a Meal

Friends Eating Dinner

This is a wonderful way for us to show God’s love to members of our church family. Maybe you just had a baby or are recovering from surgery, we can help by bringing you a meal. When you have a need, call the church and we’ll set up a schedule on the website and church members can sign up to bring meals to your home.

Ropeholders

A Ropeholder is one who holds the ropes of support as others venture out to do the Lord’s work. At Holy Comforter, you can become a Ropeholder by providing a monthly pledge which is divided among our missionaries in the field to help support their Kingdom work.
